First of all you should never spend 7-8 minutes on any question ! try to set an upper limit of 3 minutes , if you exceed this just guess and move on . Getting 1 question wrong is not going to hurt your score . But getting wasting 7-8 minutes on one question will hurt your score because you have to rush through the remaining questions .Try to maintain checkpoints like this

question number ----- time left
2-70
7-60
12-50
17-40
22-30
27-20
32-10
35-5

try to make sure you don't fall more than 2 minutes behind your target time . If you do fall more than 2 minutes behind , just guess and move on . It's actually possible to get a quant score of 51 even if you get 2/3 questions wrong as long as these mistakes are spread out over the test and not bunched up together .

Hope this helps ! Good luck!

Rather than pulling your score up through quant why don't you place more effort on verbal. 49 is not bad at all ..
