Need help on some really basic but important query
Consider the foll below:
1) Which of the following contributes most to an explanation of...... Which of the following, if true, would best help explain ......
In these kinds of "Most Helps Explain" questions - we should consider new information. Is this correct?
2) The information given, if accurate, most strongly supports which of the following?
This is an "Inference" type where the correct answer will have NO new infomation. Am i correct?
Can somebody please share a list of questions. I know how to classify them as Strengthener, Weaken, Assumption, Evaluate, etc
However, I am having difficulty classifying questions as Inference, Most helps explain, Must be True, Draw conclusion
Appreciate your help if there is any such list
Thanks Buddy

We would need the entire question to be sure but often "best help explain" kind of question stems indicate "explain the paradox" questions. There will be two conflicting scenarios presented and you need to choose the option that integrates them - that shows why both exist.

Yes, this is an inference question. Here, the argument supports the correct option. So the correct option is the conclusion/inference.
Similar to this is the stem of a strengthen question: Which of the following, if true, most strongly support the argument? Here the option will support the argument so it is an additional premise.

Our CR book discusses all question types in detail. It gives the various question stems presented while testing a particular question type. Check it out.

Yes. If there is something provided that helps "strengthen the conclusion". Now, this could be a "new information" or this could be an "assumption" with "no new" information.

Note that an assumption is also new information. It is a premise that is necessary for the conclusion but is not given in the argument.
While I can easily identify other question types, I sometimes tend to get confused between assumption and inference (since they both use 'must be true' at times) and even inference and strengthen (since they both use 'support' at times). Any idea how to easily differentiate between these?

Assumption and Inference Which of the following must be true ... Next few words will tell you whether the question is assumption type or inference type. Which of the following must be true based on the argument - Inference Which of the following must be true for the argument to hold - Assumption If you need the option to be true for the argument to hold, then it is an assumption.
Inference and Strengthen Ask yourself - what does the supporting? Does the argument support the correct option (Inference type) or does the correct option support the argument (strengthen type).
Which of the following, if true, supports the argument? Strengthen Which of the following does the argument support? Inference
