Hey
Can we use "Would" to present a future event that is not going to happen now? (The general sentence is in Present Tense)
Thanks
Gagan
Can you give an example?
If you're referring to something like this:
"He says that he would go to the store." is incorrect.
It should be "He says that he
will go to the store." You'd use "would" for a "future in the past" situation:
"He
said that he would go to the store." is correct.
However, there are other situations where you can use "would" in a sentence that's generally in the present tense, so an example would help.
Please look at the below statement:
Three Ivy League schools have pulled out of E-du, an education consortium, offering undergraduate students the opportunity to take online courses for university credit after professors and alumni complained that the program would cheapen the prestige of a degree.
Though there are other errors too in the sentence but look at the usage of would, is it correct? the statement is in present time frame as well.
I will be waiting for your reply.
Thanks
Gagan
