Yes, it is certainly possible to learn through online course and not a waste of time. It is more a matter of what is a better learning format for the individual.

While schools cannot usually confer much direct experience they do provide powerful exposure to ideas and methods. In many ways schools are ways of conveying the lessons of experience in a compact, easily incorporated way. The top cluster schools have especially great access to ideas and methods both within the school and the learning provided by other students.

Do you think it's important that a school should be accredited AACSB?

I was doing research for online b-schools from princetonreview.com and pulled up some schools that are accredited AACSB while others that aren'.t What is the difference? Which is more important?

Puilunchristin,

Excellent question. It's only an accreditation so I think it depends on your futur employer. I doubt that employers would asked for the accreditation. MBA graduates could tell us more about this.

I've looked a little more into it and I would say that generally speaking it's better to try to study in a BS with the AACSB certification because :

- theorically, schools need to show continous improvement and research to keep the label and compete with others in the same pool so it's generally a good thing for the school dynamic
- you can have more exchange partners with US schools as a foreign AACSB certified school and if you are graduated by such a school it might be a strong advantage if you are looking for a job in the US (some employers will not consider non AACSB schools)

hope that helps

While it's not quite the same as with medicine or law, accreditation is still seen as an important indicator of the quality of a business school. Note that there are other major international accreditations besides the AACSB (EQUIS and AMBA); accreditation by these organizations is viewed as a good signal of quality as well.
