Hi to all, I would like to ask a question about how you approach the questions where u're given the total $ value of the purchase of 2 items and then the value of each item OR the number of the items bought... how does it function exactly? from what i understood so far:

if u have the total $ value AND the distinct Numbers of items bought, it is NOT SUFFICIENT

if u have the total $ value AND the distinct prices of each of the 2 items, it CAN be SUFFICIENT depending on how many combinations of the 2 items u can make (though i'm not so sure on this one, can someone please confirm it?)

if u have the total number of items bought ,the total value, and the $ value of each of the 2 items it is ALWAYS SUFFICIENT

could u please clarify all these concepts to me??
I put two examples from GmatPrep to show u what kind of problems i mean..

For the first question, both statements give the same information, which is not sufficient:

1) 8r+6d=5
2) 16r+12d=10...this is the same as in statement 1) the equation is just multiplied by two...

Obviously there is no way to get the value of two unknowns with only one equation...

For the second, there is only one way to make 23 and 21 add up to 130

23+23+21+21+21+21

So then you have your answer
