Hi JessT477,

A 660/Q48 is a strong score (it's right around the 80th percentile overall), so it could be enough to get you into Business School. Whether you should retake or not will depend on a few factors:

What Schools are you planning to apply to?
When are you planning to apply?
Are you planning to apply for any scholarships (and do they have a GMAT score requirement?)?

Hi everyone,

I just took the GMAT today and got a 660 with Q48 V34. With those verbal and quant scores, I see other people scoring a a 670 or 680 overall score.

Can someone explain to me why that is? Would I be able to ask the GMAT to re-evaluate my score?

Thanks for the help!
This happens because the GMAT total is derived from internal (sectional) scores that reflect your performance on the quantitative and verbal sections slightly more accurately than scaled scores do. It is normal, and can happen even to people taking the exam on the same day.

The GMAT will not normally re-evaluate any section other than the AWA.

I see. Thank you for the clarification.

I aiming to apply for the USC Macc program for their summer intensive start in 2016.

The fact that these scores are due to slight differences but looks much better as a 680 kind itches me haha.

No kidding. The GMAC R&D people said that this could lead to "small differences" in scores, and I remember thinking that the test makers weren't really thinking like test takers :)

For what it's worth, your score is good. All the best for the rest of the process.

Hi JessT477,

With a 660, you're absolutely in position to apply to USC, so a retest is probably unnecessary. If you'd like to review your overall profile with an Admissions Expert, there's a Forum full of them here:
