Hey JKO, yea that's what it appears. My point was simply that a 770 GMAT and even a 3.0 GPA is going to demonstrate his ability regardless of the gpa calc. My comment to the OP would be this... a 3.5 GPA (this is roughly mean at all top programs) would be the top 10-15% of the class depending the GPA inflation at the school. If you were in the top 10-15% of your class... then you should apply that % to your GPA accordingly :)

@losttraveler - Thanks for the top 10-15% comment - finally a useful piece of information to make sense of these differing metrics!

From what I hear, this GPA evaluation issue remains largely a mystery to most people. I guess the best bet would be to explain the grading system of your university as clearly as you can and hope for the best!
