Is mn < 0?

1) m^n^2 < 0
2) m^p^8n^5 < 0

Can someone tell me where my logic is flawed in this thinking:
for 1) although we don't know what the sign of n is, in either scenario we have to assume that the sign of m is negative. ex: (-1)(2) = -2 AND (1)(-2) = -4 therefore, statement one is sufficient right?
