I am an MBA grad and know the general logistics for application. I have a friend in China and she is thinking about applying. I am trying to help her navigate this process and have a few questions and potential profile review:
Her:
Age 32
Degree: Master degree in management
Job: Manager at a financial institution - experiences in investment banking and corporate finance
GMAT: TBD
In terms of checklist for her, does she need the following or there's something i am missing?
1. TOEFL
2. GMAT
3. GPA converted to school's guidelines
4. Recommendation letters
5. Essays as instructed by schools
6. Visa upon acceptance (she has tourist visa and has came to US many times)
What she's looking for:
1. Primarily east coast schools, as close to VA/DC/MD as possible since her family lives in the area
2. Prefer named/top schools - she is pretty competitive and is top of her game in China.
In terms of schools, I would love some advice - off top of my head I can think of Darden, mcdonough, Tepper, Smith, kenan-flager(my alma), Duke,wharton,stern, columbia,emory as somewhat close to the area.
Would love feedback on the checklist if i missed anything for international students and also maybe a list of 9 schools (3 reach, 4 mid, 2 safe?) she should apply given her GMAT is "average" to the school?

Hi there - what are your friend's career goals, and how many years of work experience does she have? These factors, as well as GMAT score, would shape my recommendations on programs to look into.
She'll need to provide her transcript, but schools don't always require applicants to convert their GPAs (AdComs are familiar with all grading systems). The other items on the checklist should cover it. If her recommenders want to provide their letters in their native language, she can provide a notarized translation (each program has its own instructions for this process).

Well, the curious thing about her is she is very successful in China making "MBA money" BUT her immediate family are all here in US and she wants to come here. She could continue grow her career there or come here and right now she is leaning towards here. She has 6ish years of experience and a master degree. I am not sure how prestigious her schools are though.
In terms of her goals:
1. School close to family in VA/DC/MD - maybe 5 hour drive radius
2. Top ranked school (i think top 50 is good)
3. Preferably in Corporate Finance or Consulting. I know she doesnt want to do IB and she wants to use her finance strength. Consulting would be second choice.
I understand GMAT plays a high role in it but I think she will be fine. Lets assume she gets 700on her GMAT. Can you give maybe 9 schools within 5 hrs driving distance with that in mind? I know she will have only a couple of months to prep for GMAT with some leeway to retake. I know for sure she would apply McDonough and Darden since those are schools closest to home.
