Questions on PT MBA - Please advice [#permalink]

Hi All, If anyone studying or applying for PT MBA can guide me on some of my questions, it will be great.

Mybackground - I have 10 years of IT experience and in a managerial role. I feel stuck in my current position not able to move further in my career into senior management and the executive roles in the long term. One option is for me to jump to a senior manager / asst. director role in another company, but I am reluctant to do that without am MBA. I feel I am missing multiple aspects to more forward in my career (aspects like how a company is run financially, operationally, getting well versed business development and marketing, etc.,). I have a good GPA from UG (3.8) and was involved in a lots of extra curricular activities during my Under Grad, but not much in the recent years. I am studying for GMAT now. Here are my questions.

1. Would a PT MBA help accelerate my career from where I am now ? Does Post MBA after 10 years of experience (say 13 years of exp when I graduate) add value (in my current company or new company?) ?
2. I am determined to do a PT MBA from top 10 in the US for sure, as I doing an MBA after 10 years of experience is only worth at a top B School. Is this a fair assumption ?
3. I live in NJ, USA and in order to get into top b school I may end up moving to NY, Chicago or CA. Is it fine to apply for b schools now and later switch jobs to a company near the school after getting my admit ?

Kingjamesrules,
In order to give you the best advice, I have some questions for you to answer. Feel free to post here or email me separately if you would rather not post this publicly. Scott@personalmbacoach.com

1) what company do you work for and what has your career progression / salary increase been like over the years? Performance relative to peers? I know you reached a ceiling but it's still helpful to know your evaluation of work performance
2) where did you go for undergrad?
3) what GMAT score do you predict you will get? Or are you too far from the exam to tell now

Answering your questions
1- yes, a part-time MBA should help accelerate your career progress. There are many jobs you could consider that prefer an MBA grad

2- this really depends on some answers to the above questions as well as more analysis of your goals. That said, you could certainly improve your job prospects even if the MBA isn't from a top 10 school

3- usually it's a good idea to keep the same job, but I have seen people get a new job before going to school. You want to have a sense of what job that is and potentially start recruiting now so it can be part of your story. The reason is you want to communicate your plan for studying and working and depending on the program structure, you may want to be living in the city you are studying (though there are options where you could travel back and forth for some programs)

Please reach out if you would like assistance getting into your target programs

Good luck!
