Quitting job to grow startup/prepare for GMAT  [#permalink]

Hi,

I am a 24 year old female from India, I have a corporate job and I also have an ecommerce retail startup.

I want to quit my job so that I can focus on my startup and prepare for GMAT properly. I will be applying in Round 1, starting August 2019.

I have given the exam twice and this will be my third try, and so I want to do it right this time.

Will quitting my job affect my application? If I emphasise on my passion for my startup as the reason I didn’t work for 3-4 months before the applications, will it affect my prospects?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Gaurika, could you let us know what your scores were, in earlier attempts?

Quitting a job is normally not a good idea from application perspective. However, if you do have a viable startup and continue working in it, that might offer you an alibi.

Hi Gaurika24,

Quitting your job so that you can focus on studying for the GMAT is likely NOT a good idea; leaving your job to focus on your start-up might be fine though - so much of this will come down to your focus during the next couple of months (and how you might 'message' that type of decision in your applications). That's ultimately an Admissions question though, so you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

Before we discuss how you might better study for the GMAT during this next phase of your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How did you score on your prior Official GMATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
2) How long did you study for each attempt?
3) What study materials have you used so far?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you next planning to take the GMAT?
6) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Since you will be dedicating your time to your start-up, I don’t think that quitting your job is a big deal. That said, since you are asking an admissions-based question, you may find it helpful to reach out to one of the many admissions consultants here on GMAT Club for some further advice.

If you’d like any advice regarding your study plan, feel free to reach back out. Good luck!

Hi Gaurika24,

Your query is better suited for admission consultants to respond to. I would suggest you reach out to one of them. If you need help in planning your studies and making best use of the time that you have for studies (irrespective of your decision to quit your job), feel free to reach out to me at acethegmat@e-gmat.com.

Regards,
Zinnia
