R3/R4 - Which schools really admit students in those rounds?

Question

For most of the schools, applying in the Jan-March period (R3/R4) is just a waste of time, energy and money. But there should be some schools which aren't as hostile to R3/R4 applicants. So what schools are those? Are you guys (Those who don't have an admit yet) considering any schools for R3/R4?

I think all schools admit a few but those are the people had they applied in R1 would probably walk away with merit scholarships. 

I would imagine that a lot of second tier schools admit people. The top students at a lot of the schools outside the top 20 or 30 probably are people that got dinged by schools in R1 and R2 and ended up applying to their backup safety R3 and got in.

Yes, they do, but in terms of percentage it's really the hardest way to get into. I know a guy who got in HBS in round 3, and worst international applicant :shock:

I'd advise to apply until one round before the last if you can, and never apply on last round if it's a long-shot, especially at schools not to appreciative of reapplicants.

All schools admit students in the final round; they don't hold it just for fun. The final round is definitely tougher but based on my own observations, it's more about bringing in unique candidates. By the final round, most of the top schools have loaded up on people from top schools with top grades, GPAs and work experience. It seems like the people admitted in the final rounds tend to have unique factors that schools would like to add.

It's just more difficult to get in. The AO at Stanford said if they admitted the gold medalist in R2 and the bronze medalist applied in R3 they probably wouldn't get in. If they already have the gold medalist, what do you they want the bronze medalist for?

And what about the European schools? Most of them have 4 rounds, so does that mean that R3 will have more value there?
