ESSAY:
The argument claims that overhall life expentancy continues to rise, the population of the country is growing older. The author explains the example of more than 20 percent of the residents of one of the regions are now at least 65 years old, and occupancy rates at resort hotels in that region declined significantly during the past six months. With this two related fact a prudent investor would be well advised to sell interest in hotels and invest in hospitals and nursing
home instead. The conclusion of the argument relies on assumptions for which there is no clear evidence. Hence, the argument is weak/unconviencing and have several flaws.
First, the argument readily assume that the life expentancy continues to rise, the population of the country is increasingly older. The statement is a streach because life expetency is not only one factor that country population is growing increasingly older.
For example, if the increasing birth rate of the country is larger than the population growing older weaken the argumenet. Clearly, the ratio of population between birth rate and growing rate have the significant importance to state the conclusion. The argument have been much clearer if it explictly state that the satatistics of current population with differrent strata.
Second, the argument claims that 20 percent of the residents of one more populated regions are now at least 65 years old , and occupancy rates at resort hotels in that region declined significantly during past six months. This is again a very weak unsupported
argument does not demonstrate any coorelation between older age and occupancy rates at resort hotels. Due to seasonal factors like taste, preferences, income level, inflation, unemployement, war time are other reasons behind that. If the argument have provided evidence that the older age do not go to occupay resort hotels then the argument would have been a lot more convencing.
Finally, Do older aged doesn't visit the resort hotels ? Why the resort hotels declined significantly within the past six months rather it doesn't declined gradually ? Without convincing answers to these questions, one is left with the impression that the claim is more of a wishful thinking rather than substantive evidence.
In conclusion, the argument is flawed for the above-mentioned reasons and is therefore unconvincing. It could be considerably strengthened if the author clearly mentioned all the relevant facts abortion aforementioned flaws. In order to assess the merits of a certain situation/decision, it is essential to have full knowledge of all contributing factors.Without this information, the argument remains unsubstantiated and open to debate.
