Ratio of speed’s of Salim and Sanjeev is 3:4. Let's say that then Salim covers 3m in a second, while Sanjeev covers 4m in a second.
Salim starts with a 140m head start, so he only must run 360m. He does that in 120 seconds.
In 120 seconds Sanjeev covers 480m, which means he still has 20 meters before finishing the 500m race, therefore the answer is B.

To reach the winning post Salim will have to cover a distance = (500 - 140)m,
=360 m.
=>Also, its given that while Salim covers 3 m, Sanjeev covers 4 m.
=>While Salim covers 360 m, Sanjeev covers =4/3 * 360 (Unitary Method)
= 480 m
=> when Salim reaches the winning post, Sanjiv covers 480 m and therefore remains 20 m behind.
=> Salim wins by 500 - 480 = 20m (option b)
