1) RC Structure Question - A line in a passage can play a specific role in 2 context - one in context to the entire passage and one in a local context. For instance:
PARA1 - Explains Theory 1
PARA2 - Explain Theory 2 which also counters Theory 1. Further "cites an example" of Theory 2.
Now this "example" of Theory 2 in Para 2 plays 2 roles really: 1 Locally (giving an example of Theory 2) and 2 Broadly (debunking/countering Theory 1).
Now my question is, if both the roles appear in answer choice, which one should i select?
2) In a lot of RC passages on GMAT, there is a fine line between the words and their literal meaning. For instance take up RC number 3 in OG Verbal Review 2nd Ed. (Although genetic mutations.....). In this look at Q.No 17 answer choice B: "Interest in outdoor recreation began to grow in the late nineteenth century." GMAC has shot down the whole answer choice on the basis of the word 'Interest' saying 'Interest' does not mean actual incidence of an event occurring. I have seen similar reasoning elsewhere as well. For eg. OG13 RC Passage 2, Q.No - 5, they have shot down the answer choice on the word 'Propose'
