Real estate broker: Some people in Country X have postponed home purchases because of the country’s high interest rates. However, a similar number of people in Country X have postponed home purchases because of political unrest in the country. Thus, it is incorrect to conclude that Country X’s high interest rates are the primary cause of the current decline in home sales.
The reasoning in the real estate broker’s argument is flawed because the argument:
(A) assumes that if one factor is not the primary cause of a phenomenon, then another factor must be.
(B) overlooks the possibility that people who postpone home purchases because of political unrest would otherwise have postponed them because of high interest rates.
(C) fails to investigate whether the total number of home sales in Country X has declined by a significant amount.
