I currently work for RE PE fund and post MBA would ideally want to move into generic PE space. So Just wanted to get some views on whether it is possible to break into sector agnostic funds from a RE PE background or do people get bracketed in the real estate space.
One way probably would be to get into IBs. Now will a RE PE experience prove to be a deterrent in moving to say a technology, media or any other desk in the bank when it comes to fit? Also do students have to declare their choice of desks before they appear for interviews or can decide once they have an offer?
Any advise/views on the above two would be welcome.
(I will be attending Ross in the fall term)
