I'm sure this question has been brought up many times before, but I notice that a lot of schools require that you have a recommendation from your current employer. Obviously, I'd prefer not to do this for fear on losing my current job, but is there a way to get around this?

One of my friends told me to use my 4th "optional essay" to tell the adcom why I chose not to use my current employer for recommendation letters.

Thanks in advance.

It's a dilemma many applicants face. All the school's I've seen have a short answer section that let you explain why you didn't include a current supervisor. You can use that part to state your cause.

yeah, put it in the optional essay. My company has reorg'd 5 times in the 18 months I've worked here. So I've had 4 managers in the past 4 months, and they in turn have had 4 or 5 different managers, so I used the ops manager I deal with on the vast majority of my projects and a past manager since they know me better than the current one.

this kind of thing is pretty common so don't expect to be hurt by it
