Hey everyone! Sorry, but here is a totally newbie question...
I am planning to take a preparation course for the GMAT and I have no clue as to what is good and what is bad.
Can anyone post any preparation course that they have underwent and can recommend? $1000+ is a lot of money and I want to spend it wisely.

I have just taken a Kaplan course (at $1000+tx) and it was a joke. 
Brilliant teachers with aweful teaching skills. The online material is great though, yet I think there are too many endless workshops and not enough real-life GMAT questions overall. Also, pacing and stress management was NOT a major concern; just one or two quizzes asking YOU how YOU «intend» to manage your stress on exam day, with nerdy tips here and there à la "CHOICE (B) I will panic and try to solve the maths problem no matter how long it must take."! One thing I really didn't appreciate either was the false marketing: supposedly 8 available CATs as means of practice... You see, the way it's conceived, you cannot pause a simulated exam once it's started. As a result, if ever you must stop taking said online CAT halfway for one reason or another, well tough luck you lose one chance out of 8 to practice with GMAT-like questions. Kaplan also promotes its «ULTIMATE TEST-TAKING SCENARIO», which in fact is nothing else than a gimmick i.e. a free take at a real exam at Pearson View, something available & free to anyone at all time anyway!!! For that matter, your best bet would be to go stick to their commercial prep books w/ CD-Rom and CATs so that you AT LEAST get to read them over if you can't finish them (questions, answers & explanations). In other words, bad investment! -> KEEP YOUR MONEY.

Thanks so much for the input! In my area, Kaplan is always advertising their programs and such. I was actually thinking about doing that program, but after your input, i will definitely think twice about it.
Are there any other test preparation programs out there? It seems to me (based on my experience) that Kaplan is the only one offering GMAT courses.
If not a preparation course, what are the other ways that you guys are preparing for the GMAT? Do these other ways help?!
