Dear All:
I currently have a job offer at Google - the pay is great and I would love to work there; however, I'm not really excited about the job position (HR / ops-related work). I would love to interview for positions in Business and Operations Strategy or Product Management. How do I talk to my Google recruiter in a way to reject the job offer but mention here are 2/3/4 open positions at Google which would be my dream job?
PS. Currently in a part-time MBA program. Looking to do corporate strategy / development in the tech industry long-term.

Why not take the position, put in a year and then go for an internal transfer? Seems to me that getting INTO google in the first place is the hard part, and an internal application a year in would do well. Plus it sounds like it has an operational bend do it and what you want is operational, so perhaps its not that bad of a fit?
I guess you have to ask yourself if you are willing to loose the chance of working at google because the role isn't ideal. Remember the old tale: industry, function, location..... pick two.
Problem with telling the recruiter is that begs the question - why did you apply to a job you didn't want?

Thanks for the advice rhyme. I guess it does come down to whether or not I want to take the risk of not getting an interview for another position. I'm just worried that I might hate that one year of work and feel like I took a step back career-wise...I suppose this may be an opportunity to take a risk and see if I can get my dream job by the end of next year!
