HaleEndMBA
Hi all,
Looking for any help i can find to analyse my straight up rejection by IMD within few days of my mba application.
My profile:
Indian, 33Male
Work ex: 8years with 3 promotions, currently working as a senior manager leading a team of 12 consultants (customer: Big pharma giant based in switzerland)
ACADEMICS: Masters and bachelors from IIT (top3 in india). Masters GPA=4/4, bachelors gpa: 2.9/4, academic distinction and institute excellence award for masters
GMAT: 700
Extracurriculars: decent but mostly from 7-8yrs ago
LORs: good recommendation from client
Used the additional info section to highlight how i got into consulting after studying engineering
Career Goals:
1. Looking to switch geography to switzerland post IMD
2. Expecting a vertical jump in current role within the same industry
3. I already have a Network of colleagues and customers in switzerland
What could have worked against my application:
1. No presence on linkedin (i find the platform toxic and unbearable)
2. In finance section of the imd application, i explicitly mentioned that i would be looking to fund 40% of the total mba cost through loans and 40% through IMD scholarships.

Looking for any feedback on my profile and rejection or any inputs on which schools should i target next? I am looking for a 1 year MBA program with an average age of 30+ years.
Posted from my mobile deviceBummer about your IMD rejection, but don't worry, we can try to figure out what might have played a role in their decision. Keep in mind, though, that we can't be sure about the exact reasons without more info. Here are some thoughts:
Age and Experience: You're 33 with 8 years of experience, which is a bit more than the typical applicant. It might have been tough for the admissions folks to see how an MBA would really boost your career since you're already doing pretty well as a senior manager. Still, you're close to the IMD class average. This may not really have been a major factor in the ding.
GMAT Score: A 700 GMAT score is good, but as an Indian applicant, it might be just average among the super competitive pool. Still, IMD is not a school known to demand astronomical GMAT scores. Your GMAT score was ok for IMD and not the factor for your rejection.
Extracurriculars: Your extracurriculars being mostly from 7-8 years ago could have made it hard to show that you're still involved and engaged outside of work. B-schools like applicants with diverse interests and community involvement. This may have been a minor factor.
Financial Aid: Mentioning that you expected 40% of the MBA cost to come from IMD scholarships might've come off on the wrong side, showing underpreparation on the financial side. This could have mattered.
No LinkedIn: Not having a LinkedIn profile might not be a deal-breaker, but it could've made it harder for the admissions folks to check out your work history, accomplishments, and connections. A well-kept LinkedIn profile can really help you show off your professional achievements and personal brand.
Application Quality: Maybe your application (essays, resume, and LORs) didn't fully capture your story and goals. It's super important to have a solid narrative that explains why an MBA is the right choice for you at this point in your career. It's not clear from your profile if you have (on the ground, not remote) international experience, and if you don't, then that can be a significant negative for IMD.
Beyond that, feel free to get in touch directly with your app materials and we can provide a ding analysis.
