Hi,
I am planning to apply for an MBA in the 2014-15 academic year. My goal post-MBA is to get into Consulting/Finance (leaning towards Consulting though).
About me:
Indian Male, 25 yrs old
Graduated with a 3.14 GPA from public IVY (Illinois) in Aerospace Engineering
Currently, I have about 2 years of experience as a Dynamics Engineer (involving lots of numerical modeling and analysis stuff) for a large Aerospace Conglomerate (in their India location)
I returned to India after my undergrad and started working here. Unfortunately i have a gap of 1 year after graduation and starting work. I worked as a freelance systems administrator (as I did during 4 years of college) during this time and even co-founded a profitable startup (which I eventually left after starting my job)
I have not yet taken the GMAT (scheduled for Sep) but I scored 700 in the official practice test I took last month. I am hoping to score around 740-760 when I have finished preparing.
My current plan is to apply to Kellogg, Booth and Ross in the round 2. And based on the outcome to apply to Darden, Fuqua and another undecided college in round 3 if required.
I really liked the 'Analytic Management' concentration at Booth and think that would be a good fit for me.
I want to project that I have strong analysis and problem solving skills that would make me a good MBA candidate.
What do you think of my chances at the above schools and the choice of schools ?
You have a solid profile which is different than a typical Indian applicant: you did you undergrad at a reputable US school and work in an industry which typically doesn't send a whole lot of students to business school - all these should help your candidacy. Now, only if you can score well on the real GMAT and can show the need of a MBA, I think you should get into at least one school (maybe even more). Also, stay away from round 3. You still have plenty of time to put in 4-5 good R2 applications.
