Hi Manick9,

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
6) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi,

1) I have studied about 1 month.
2) I have used only the OG and done questions on GMATClub.
3) I took 1 gmatprep mock test and got 620, Q49 V26

Goals:
4) I goal score is 730+. As my GPA is 2.9, I'm trying to a higher GMAT score to offset it.
5) I am planning to apply in 3/4 years.

6) I am planning to specialize in Finance.
Dream Schools: Harvard, INSEAD, MIT
Target Schools: Wharton, Columbia, Kellogg, HEC Paris
Safety Schools: NTU, SMU, NUS

Please also recommend other schools that would be suitable.

Thank you very much.

Hi Manick9,

To start, many Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores, so it's likely that you would continue to improve as you continued to study. Your studies so far have been 'book heavy' - and you appear to have been working through random practice questions without a formal study plan; many Test Takers who use a 'book heavy' study approach end up getting 'stuck' at a particular score level - since you've taken just one practice CAT, it's not clear whether that has happened to you or not. Thus, you should plan to take a new, FULL-LENGTH CAT (with the Essay and IR sections) sometime soon. Once you have that next score result, you should post back here and we can discuss the results and how best to proceed.

Raising a 620 to a 730+ will likely require at least another 2 months of consistent, guided study. Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level.

Rich
