Hi again - thanks for the additional information. The average number of years of work experience for those programs is about 3-7 years - since yours is on the earlier end, you'd want to make sure that you show strong impact on your resume and have your recommenders attest to your exceptional performance and early potential. Also, make sure to communicate in your apps what drives you about consulting (and what transferrable skills you bring to the role) and why you're a strong fit for each program. While the programs you've listed are all very competitive, if you address these areas I don't think they're out of range for you.

Hope that helps! :)

Hi Nisha,

I would like to change industries from law to strategic consulting. The ultimate aim is entrepreneurship. I'm quite politically active, and at uni I was a member of the powerlifting team (less nowadays, constant injuries!). I'm also quite into language learning - currently learning Mandarin (Upper immediately - advanced-ish level now).

Last question is hard to answer! I suppose the most important learning points have been how to write persuasively, and how to work in large teams.

Hope that's useful, apologies for the brief summary.

Thanks!

PS: I wrote my GMAT scores incorrectly - it should be 770/50Q/44V/8IR/6AW

Hi, and thanks for writing! A couple of questions:

- Why do you want an MBA at this time, and what would you like to do after graduation?
- Are you involved in any activities outside of work?
- What types of skill sets have you developed as a solicitor, and how will they transfer to your desired post-MBA career?

Thanks!
Nisha

Hi mbaMission,

My profile is as follows:

Undergraduate degree - Physics at Cambridge, one year in the Cambridge Judge business school doing undergraduate management. 1st class in Physics, 2.1 in management.
Graduate qualifications - Distinction in the GDL and LPC (law conversion and vocational training for UK solicitors) from BPP (a private university).
Work experience - 2 years training as a solicitor at a magic circle UK law firm in London.
GMAT - 770/50V/44Q/8IR/6AW.

While I understand that my limited work experience might be an issue i'm looking to apply to HBS, Columbia, Stanford and Insead. Would appreciate an appraisal of my odds.

Thanks,

Thanks Nisha,

Do you know which programs would be more accessible to someone with limited work experience (I've heard Stanford and Columbia are more lenient)? And would you have any indication of probability for getting into these types of schools?

Separately - do you have any recommendations for a back-up choice?

Sorry for the deluge of questions - bit of a stream of consciousness!

Thanks,

Dan

Hi again - while Stanford does tend to have a decent portion of early career candidates, in general I'd say that #s of work experience isn't nearly as important as the strength of the applicant's candidacy, for any top school.

We don't assign odds of admissions, as it's very difficult to do so given that it partially depends on who else is applying each year. If you want to discuss your profile in more detail and determine what other programs might be a fit for you (as it's challenging to gauge from limited info) I'd highly recommend signing up for a 30-min free consultation here: https://www.mbamission.com/consult/?dis ... admissions

Thanks and hope to connect soon!
