Hi Experts,
I am looking for a profile review and would be obliged if you can help me out with one.
1. Demographics: 23/M/Indian
2. Educational Qualification
- Undergraduate Institute: Indian Institute of Technology (ISM)
- Course: Computer Science and Engineering
- CGPA: 9.67/10.0
3. GMAT: Not taken yet, plan to complete by end of August.
4. Work Experience:
- Total Work-Experience: 2 years as of July 2021
- Organisation: Amazon Dev Center, India
- Industry: E-Commerce/IT
- Current Designation: Software Dev Engineer 2 (July 2021 - Current)
- Job Role: Building the next generation of customer acquisition systems for B2B Customers at Amazon
- Description:
- Developing a scalable system to increase prospect to customer conversion via acquisition channels
- Creating fuzzy-match based solution that intelligently enriches customer attributes by leveraging attributes across multiple internal and external datasources
- These enriched attributes are fed into 3P Marketing Automation tool to determine which acquisition channel the customer should be targeted by.

>> Business Acumen - your current role and responsibilities seem to be highly technical. For MBA admit and post MBA career (Consultant / ProdMan), you may want to increase your understanding of business that would include understanding of e-commerce industry, competitive landscape (particularly in the US and India), what is Amazon's strategy to differentiate and protect its position as the market leader, how the product that you are building adds to the success of Amazon, etc.
>> Customer Orientation - this is one of the most critical aspects of ProdMan career. You may want to seek opportunities to do some user research and market research to start developing expertise in this space.
>> Soft Skills - You have not mentioned this in your profile description. For MBA admit - this would play a pivotal role. Specifically, focus on managing challenging situations, negotiation skills, working with people from diverse background/culture etc.
- What should I do to improve my profile?
>> For ISB, you have a great profile. With a ~700 GMAT score, a good pitch through the application and essays, and a convincing personal interview would lead you to an admit from ISB.
>> For 1 year MBA's from IIMs - minimum work experience would be 5+ years. So, you will need to wait for a couple of years. I am sure your profile would be further enhanced by then.
- What would be a safe/good GMAT score for ISB?
>> Anything around 700 would suffice. Please note that AdCom does not offer admits just based on GMAT. ISB has rejected admits to people with 750+ GMAT scores in the recent past.
- What kind of scholarship can I expect?
>> Scholarships won't cover much of the total cost of MBA. ISB has a few scholarships; IIMs has no scholarships. You will need to arrange funds through your personal financing or education loan.

Hope I got the name correct
Overall, that's a good profile. I'll start with the acads.
The Uni acads are great and I also see a lot of awards, Getting the President's award (did I get that right?) is cool and that along with the GPA definitely establishes your academic strength. Now topping it with a 730+ GMAT score will be icing on the cake. It seems that so far you are aiming for ISB alone. However, if that plan changes and you start eyeing the American MBA programs, a 740+ score will be needed. So, aim for the best score you can get.
Work experience - Amazon is a good employer to have on the resume, particularly because they also hire MBA grads. Your work is technical, so while writing the applications, you will have to think beyond the technicalities to how you solved "customer problems", how you influenced your teams to achieve common objectives, and how you took and led initaitives, thought innovatively. Basically these will help you to show your leadership potential- which is what matters most for business school applications.
ECAs- these are decent. If you are not applying this year, this is an area that you can build upon. You can take up volunteering initiatives with an NGO and/or accumulate some experiences at the workplace in community-building efforts and CSR
Your profile is good as is for ISB. Needless to say, a compelling application followed by a good interview will be key to getting admission. I will also encourage you to apply to programs abroad, although another year's experience will be beneficial if applying to programs other than ISB.
