tanimatt:
Q: Is M7 too ambitious for me?
A: Possibly. I am concerned about the GPA despite your best efforts to mitigate it. It's possible some of the M7 schools overlook it, but you really can't be too sure going into the process. There's too much randomness, so you're going to have to hedge with your list.
Q: In addition to M7, I am looking at Cleantech/Sustainibility focused schools like McCombs, Ross, Fuqua, Johnson etc.
A: That's smart. There's more margin for error with those schools. The focus area will make your pitch to these programs quite fitting. You should probably apply to all these programs and pick a couple of your best M7 choices if you want to balance your risk/reward.
Q: Also 2nd MBA might be an issue, so I already have written off schools like Haas, Tuck etc.
A: Yes, unfortunately that's necessary.
Q: Very difficult to self-fund my MBA. It has to be either loan or fellowship of some kind due to poor financial condition of my family.
A: That's totally understandable. That does not have much bearing on the chances of being admitted. If you want to get more fellowship/grants and take our fewer loans, you need to focus less on the M7 schools and more on schools in the top 10 to 25 schools.
Also, you have two things you need to address:
(1) You need to justify why a second MBA is necessary for you even if a school allows you to apply for their program while holding another MBA. This should be weaved into your required essays.
(2) Your low GPA. You can do this in the optional essay for each school.
