Hi @icantanymore and I hope you are safe as well!I would like your feedback on my profile and some advice on whether I should be applying to US business schools for 2021 or 2022
Profile:
Female, 24 years
Undergrad: English honors from one of the top 5 colleges in the country (duration: 3 years)
Class 12th: 96%
Class 10: CGPA 10/10 ( round about ~95%)
Yet to take GMAT (aiming for a 730-750)
If you have not yet taken the GMAT you may want to wait until next year as R2 is coming up sooner than you think and your best shot is to apply by R2.A. Work ex: 3 years as of June 2020 ( completely in the social sector)
1. Teach for India fellowship: 2 years
- Taught English & Social Science to 140 Grade 8 & 9 students in a government school. Selected as one of the top 7 classrooms in India to be studied for the pioneering growth generated in 2 years, as a part of Teach for India’s Transformational Impact Journey (TIJ) program
- Started a social start-up/ community based project to empower parents of adolescent students belonging to one of the most vulnerable communities in the state (60 households) through strategies for better academic performance of students. Activities included primary and secondary research, strategy design, implementation and execution, project management, and monitoring and evaluation.
2. Consultant to a State Government department: 10 months
Area of work was involved initiating, executing and evaluating projects for systemic improvements in education. More than 200K beneficiaries impacted.
3. Data lead for a US-based not for profit called TechnoServe:
Responsible for overall data management of a flagship program, and providing data driven insights to senior leadership of the organization for strategic decision making.
B. Extra-curricular activities:
1. Senior member and lead performer in the western dance group of my college (areas: Hip-hop and dancehall): Won 15+ national inter-college competitions
2. Project director for an NGO: managed and led 50 volunteers and supervised operations in 4 MCD schools
C. Post MBA goal:
To work with a foundation (like Omidyar Network or Asha Impact) or with a Management consulting firm (Eg: BCG Social Impact practice)
D. Dream schools:
1. Stanford GSB
2. Columbia
3. Chicago Booth
4. Yale SOM
5. HBS/ Kellogg
I'd love to know the following:
1. If you think my profile is strong enough for the schools I'm targeting. If not, what can I do to improve?
These are all difficult programs for anyone-- I would say having an extra year and time to get a top score will help2. Since my undergrad duration was 3 years, should I apply for the batch starting 2021 or 2022?
Most schools accept the 3 yr undergrad programs-- you'd have to check with each school to be sure.3. Any other advice or imput
Continue to make connections with post MBA recruiting companies so you understand what you need to be successful. There are other schools that may also help you reach these goals that you might also want to consider including Duke Fuqua, Michigan Ross, Tuck, Darden, Haas.Thank you in advance!!
