Hi,

Can somebody please evaluate my profile and recommend any good b-schools in India as well as abroad (South-east Asia,Singapore,Australia,Europe).
10th - 86.53%
12th - 87.00
B.E(Electronics) - 61.5%
IT Experience - 4yrs - QA domain - 2 promotions - Team Lead Role now
Decent extra-curricular activities

GMAT Attempt#1 - 550
GMAT Attempt#2 - 560 (given within a month)

Which colleges are applicable for me? Or should i give up my job and prepare better for a good score and then apply?

Hi Shoubhik,

This is the worst thing you can do to yourself if you are rooting on an MBA. Join some GMAT classes, use the excellent GMAT Club forum, form a study group- You have time until the second half of this year before R1 deadlines and a year's time until R2 deadlines- use that time constructively for studying for GMAT and improve your score.

Quitting your job for GMAT raises several red flags- you will be questioned on the employment gap and on your ability to multitask. If you can not survive the workload now, how will you manage the extremely intense workload in year one of an MBA program?

Dear Shoubhik,

Absolutely No ! We will strongly recommend against leaving job to prepare for GMAT. Focus on improving your GMAT score while you are working. A score of 560 would be below par to apply to good schools esp. you being an Indian IT male candidate. This segment is extremely competitive.

Though career growth exhibited through 2 promotions in 4 years stand you in good stead, a low GMAT score and you being a part of the most competitive segment of applicants don't help your cause.

A low GMAT score is something that we think you can work on and change esp. since we are having this conversation in January so you are definitely an early starter in the application process, so you should as well utilize your advantage. We will be happy to see your split of scores and recommend what areas to focus on in improving your GMAT. Though 700 is the magical number in GMAT, a 650+ score would give you a realistic chance of getting a good admit. However a career break to pursue GMAT is a strong red flag and will be very difficult to explain on your application as well.

We would recommend :

1) Improve your GMAT score - Prepare thoroughly and focus on simulating the test environment while practicing. Give GMAT latest by end of May. This would be your last attempt, there should be no plan to give GMAT again.

2) Start finding or developing pointers in your profile that will make you stand out among this intensely competitive segment of applicants which could be in form of EC (don't start anything from scratch now, if you haven't done something in the past, it wont add much value) or the work experience .
