Hello all, Peter here, new to the forum. Looks like an awesome resource. A little bit about my current scenario.
My background is in accounting (including a bachelors and masters degree) and I am looking to apply for an accounting phd program, and as such am in the process of preparing for the GMAT. Deadlines for applications for academic year beginning fall 2026 are around the 12/1/2025 time frame. With this in mind, I am hoping to sit for the GMAT ideally no later than 11/1/2025.
I began preparing a little over 3 weeks ago (late August). The very first thing I did was to go in cold and take a free practice test on sigmax - I scored 485 on this test. With this score I figured I probably could benefit from learning the basics, so my next step was to purchase the
Manhattan prep textbooks: All the Quant + DI and All the Verbal. I spent about 3 hrs a day over the next three weeks (about 60 hours total) reading through these books, highlighting and taking notes where appropriate, and completing the small number of questions provided in the book. After this, I took a gmat official practice test (today) and scored a 555. While this was a substantial improvement (70 points), I am still a way off from my goal score of 705.
My main question is what those of you who have reached up near or into the 700s would suggest. I probably have about 5-6 weeks of prep time remaining before I ideally must take the test. I am in between jobs at the moment, and this being so probably will have 3-4hrs a day available to devote to study. One last note, when I was getting started on my studies I did purchase the GMAT official guide book + online question bank, so I do have access to that as well, although I have not really begun either yet. The main options that came to mind after taking the second practice test today were to either proceed to the GMAT official guide book and questions, which I am pretty sure I could complete in under the 5-6 week time frame, then take another practice test? Or to try out another prep course like
TTP. Or maybe some combination if time permits? I guess I wonder if 5-6 weeks would be enough to realize strong utilization out of
TTP?
Anyway, any advice or suggestions on next steps to bump that score up from 555 would be greatly appreciated!
P.S. in the practice test I took today, my scores were 75 (51st percentile) on DI, 77 on quantitative reasoning (46th percentile) and 80 (60th percentile) on verbal reasoning.
