I understand that collective nouns like "team" typically take singular pronouns. However, there are exceptions when the focus shifts from the entire team to its individual members.
So A) is correct?
A) The team is fighting among themselves over the project's direction.or
B) The team is fighting among itself over the project's direction. The first version does use the correct pronoun, "themselves." However, it's not quite correct because it needs a plural verb as well.
The correct version is the following:
The team are fighting among themselves over the project's direction.Quote:
Furthermore, what happens I use something like "Bakery" in a similar context. Does the below sentence reads correct?
The bakery added several kinds of bread in menu to save itself.Regarding the above sentence, a bakery would not be a plural group noun because a bakery is not considered a group of individuals. So, "itself" is the correct pronoun to use with "bakery."
