Hi,
I hope you are doing well!
I am looking for some help regarding my profile evaluation for MBA.
At this moment, with a pretty low score, I do not know whether I should go ahead with it or wait for one more year. But, I am afraid coz I am 30 years old!
My Info:
I am an Indian male.
Profile: Non-IT. Content, marketing and communication.
Age - 30.
Fulltime work ex - 8.5 years
Percentage in UG: 74 (out of 100) - In top 5 of class
Percentage in PG: 60 (out of 100) - In top 5 of class
Extracurricular activities:
Inter-university level debates (won prizes in inter-college level debates and discussion), directed stage drama (interned under a docu filmmaker for 2 months)
Social:
1) Worked as project manager for an NGO for 2 years, during my undergrad.
2) Founded (along with my father) own NGO (Samiti) in 2015 to start Bread Bank in my hometown: A concept of collecting the leftover bread from every home in the neighborhood and help feed stray dogs in the community. We started a free medical camp of Ayurveda meds for villages in my hometown, in 2017.
I managed to onboard 4 Ayurveda practitioners to help the needy. We are now aiming to launch an Ayurveda medical college where we can promote this Indian science.
Awards:
1) United Press International Freelance Journalist in 2011 and 2012. It is awarded to the best student journalist. I was chosen among 70 participants across the globe
2) Spot Bonus for Best Employee of India Team at ByteDance in 2018. This was with my last full-time job where I could not stay for more than 7 months. However, I resigned within 20 days of receiving this award in office.
Career summary:
I studied mass communication from India's number 1 college (AJK MCRC, Jamia) and immediately after completing my course, I started my career with a national news channel. However, I gradually shifted to the content marketing domain and left journalism.
Now, I am running my own startup which is probably the first of its kind of service-provider in India. It is India's first hyperlocal video distribution company that has over 250 project-based contract workers and 8 full-time employees. I have contributors from India's 200+ cities and 10+ states (provinces) and Canada's 2 cities.
My startup has worked with unicorn clients such as ByteDance, UCWeb, Joyy Inc. (Likee and Bigo LIVE), SHAREit, and startups such as Trell, Rizzle. We also have clients in Canada, the US and China.
Before starting it, I had worked with ABP News Network, India's number one media house (in terms of viewership), UCWeb, the world's largest third-party browser ( in terms of DAU) and ByteDance, the world's most valued startup ($75B and likely to hit $120B in next valuation).
Reason for MBA:
I am managing a business without any management degree. I have faced this question in the past when I was speaking to the interviewee during one of my successful job interviews - " Do you have an MBA?" Until I was into a full-time job, I was reluctant to accept that an MBA was hampering my growth.
However, when I started running this business, I think I have got an answer that a lot of skills are needed to be added to my profile, to run it more efficiently. I want to learn about finance and grab more operations and leadership skills.
Interest area:
General Management
Entrepreneurship
Operations
GMAT: I could score only 610 (Q44 V29) which is very low.
Questions:
1) Shall I reattempt?
2) Or do I stand a chance for any above-average college with my profile?
3) Shall I drop this year and try again next year with new GMAT scores?
Thanks in advance!
