My doubt here is that while trying to get an explanation for "The price of a company’s stock has not appreciated" could be more than 1 - the price fell, or the price remained stagnant (as stated in the stmt itself) so how could the given reasoning that it remained stagnant mean the same thing as the price did not appreciate, as parallel to the given statement in the paragraph about sleep inducing qualities of opium?

Hey, After seeing the official explanation I guess I can answer your question.

You're right, the price might have fallen or it might have remained stagnant, but in both cases, it doesn't answer why it happened, like in the other options, there was a cause-and-effect relation. Think about it.
