Hi everyone,
so far I have already taken the GMAT twice. Both times I achieved scores far below my expectations and my prior practice test results.
1st attempt: 450 (Q29 V24)
2nd attempt 520 (Q40 V21)
My background is a BSc. in Economics & Business Administration with a minor in Finance and rather quantitative coursework.
I am a non-native English speaker, but I have studied abroad in the US and my Toefl scores are also >110.
I m about to start my gap year now during which I m even going to study pure Mathematics in order to be prepared for a PHD or Quantitative Master in Econ/Finance and in order to further sharpen my quant skills.
In order to get into a top notch MSc program next fall and possibly into an MBA/a PHD program at a graduate school later, I will definitely need a minimum GMAT score of 650, or even better one of 680-700. Else, I will most likely abandon any GMAT efforts forever.
My prep material comprised the following:
Quant:
Magoosh online prep platform,
MGMAT complete series,
OG 12
Verbal: RC: Veritas Prep RC guide, CR & SC:
MGMAT, Veritas App vids
For some reason, I tend to struggle a lot with RC on the GMAT (not so on the TOEFL and not with college readings). Other than that, it seems like I do a lot worse in Verbal on test day than I do while taking practice tests. So my weaknesses are definitely in Verbal and there is possibly a way to improve slightly in the Quant section.
I have also focused a lot on strategies (I have a very comprehensive set of notes summarizing various test prep resources), perhaps even more than on practice, which is another reason possibly explaining my low scores that I could come up with myself.
Any advice on how to tackle the GMAT one last time (resources, subscriptions, strategies or other advice) will be highly appreciated.
Best
M.A.
