I'm currently an engineer at Ford Motor Company and have a choice in choosing my next engineering assignment in April:
1. Powertrain research engineer: Would have the opportunity for patents and publishing papers.
2. PMT (Program Management Team) engineer: Would be responsible for decreasing warranty claims, reducing costs, and resolving new model launch issues. Act as point person between upper management and 20 or so powertrain engineers.
I will be applying to schools Fall 2010, so will only be at whatever job I choose for about 4 month before I submit my application. Was leaning more toward the second option as it is more "management" oriented, but am wondering if anyone thinks the first option would look better for business school application purposes. Maybe it won't make much difference since the odds of making major accomplishments in either job in just 4 months are small. I am trying to switch into management consulting.
What would you do?
