Summarize Your Career
These days, employers get so many resumes on a daily basis that they tend to spend less than one minute looking at each of them. As a result, you should strive to put a lot of focus on the top of your resume by summarizing your career before getting into any thorough details. A career summary should highlight all of your biggest achievements. After all, you’ll want whomever is reviewing your resume to be blown away by your qualifications as soon as they look at it.
Stay Up to Date
One of the worst mistakes you can make when applying for a job is handing a dated resume to a potential employer. Handing in a dated resume basically says that you haven’t accomplished anything of note as of late, which is not the impression that you want to make when seeking out a job. Rather, you should ensure that your resume is as up to date as possible before handing it over, especially if the job you are applying for is within your field.
Focus on the Formatting
The most important thing you can do when preparing your resume is to focus on the way that it is formatted. In order for a resume to be effective, it needs to be extremely easy to read, and should be eye catching rather than convoluted in appearance. Always choose a format that is easy on the eyes. Also, you may want to use a bold font for important qualifications that you’ve earned.
