First off, I want to say that this site has been immensely helpful for me the last few months, and I’m so grateful for everyone who contributes to this community. I hope to help out more now that my preparation is (maybe) over.
With that being said - I took the GMAT for the first time today and scored a 770 (V45 Q50). While I know that a 770 is a great score, I can’t help but be a little disappointed, considering I scored 780, 790, and 790 on my last 3 official practice exams. Additionally, for the first time, I ran out of time on both Quant and Verbal and thus had to guess on one or two at the end.
Given my practice exam scores, I am somewhat confident that, if I took the exam again, I’d likely be able to score above a 770. However, I’m not sure if it’s worth the extra time / effort / money, especially given I may score the same or worse.
My primary concerns are admissions and scholarships; I am an ORM who will be applying to HSW plus Booth and Kellogg in 2-3 years (just graduated, working in consulting). Will an extra 10-20 points make a tangible difference in admissions and/or scholarship money?
Any insight welcome - thanks in advance!!

Boss.....you are a great warrior. Kudos on your score of 770. How long has it taken to reach there from scratch and how tough do u think it was.

Thanks for the encouragement - I’ll likely post a debrief of my experience at some point within the next couple of days, but I can give a quick summary:
I started out using the Economist GMAT tutor (now owned by Bloomberg), as it is paid for by my employer. I completed around 30% of the course, and realized that the course wasn’t for me. It didn’t fit my learning style, and I didn’t like the lack of flexibility. From that point on, I only used official practice questions and GMATPrep material.
I’m a native speaker, so verbal is relatively easy for me. For RC and CR, I don’t use any specific strategies - I just make sure to read the question / passage very carefully to ensure that I completely understand the material. For SC, I made sure to focus on the most important aspects: parallelism, meaning, modifiers, verb tense, and pronouns.
For quant, I used the TTP equation cheat sheet (a PDF I got from the free trial) and then just did a ton of PQs. I also bought the advanced question pack from MBA dot com.
One of the most important aspects of my prep was my error log. I kept track of every question that I was unsure of, and I would come back to these problems periodically.
Like I said, I’ll hopefully post a better debrief later, but I hope this is helpful!
