I need some advice. I submitted my applications Sunday to 3 top 15 business schools. While this was a huge relief, I am starting to worry more about my GMAT score. I feel like it is the weakest point of my application. I scored a 660. I did really awesome on the verbal section (scoring in the 98% percentile). However, I only scored a 36 on the quantitative section (36% percentile). As business school is heavily quantitative focused, I am concerned this will be a huge red mark on my application.
I only had enough time to retake the GMAT once before applications were due. I had a really bad day and scored lower (~550) the second time around. I cancelled the score, so it does not show up on my official report.
About me:
I enrolled in a pre-engineering program at a local university after high school and then matriculated into the Chemical Engineering department at a top 50 engineering school . I took almost half of my courses at the first university I attended (70+ credit hours), including calculus I, II, and III. I made in the A/B range in all three. My GPA prior to transferring was a 3.6. My GPA at the engineering university was a 2.9. As I had gotten most of my electives out of the way prior to transferring, 90% of these courses were engineering.
I work as an engineer in the pharmaceutical industry. My primary focus is project management. I manage large capital projects and have a wealth of experience working on cross-functional teams. I have had two short term international assignments in my career. I am actively involved in 3-4 extracurricular activities, which include a couple leadership positions. I intend to stay in the pharmaceutical industry and want to use my MBA as a means to transition into people management.
I know my professional experience is great and I poured my soul into my essay (I had a difficult year personally which I explained in my essay), but I just can't past my low quantitative score. On the flip side, I feel that if I take it again, I can do much worse AGAIN which will hurt my chance even more. I'm wondering if I should retake the GMAT again and submit the scores as an addendum to my original application. Thoughts?
