Hello,
I took the GMAT last week and ended up with an official score of 660. Break out was 42Q / 39V / IR4 / AWA-pending. I only had 2 months to study so I hardly touched the IR section, focused primarily on Quant and Verbal. I was scoring 690 on average in my practice tests, so I was disappointed with the lower than expected score, and I believe I could have done much better.
The problem was that I ran into an issue during my break before the Quant - the Pearson moderator was taking her sweet time with the security process (asking me to repeat various steps multiple times, and overall seemed unsure with which pockets she need to check, etc), and then the palm scanner would not work properly and caused a significant delay. By the time I got to my desk, 2.5 minutes had already passed in the Quant section. I was extremely flustered and my heart was pounding because I realized I had a lot of ground to make up... but if that wasn't enough, the person actually interrupted me and asked "which marker should I replace?" and then followed up with another interruption "also check both markers to make sure they are working." I was extremely annoyed and flustered by this and it affected me for the remainder of the Quant section. Those 3 minutes that I missed would have gone a long way as I could have spent more time on some of the difficult questions (instead of having to guess), and I could have had more time for the final 2 questions where I had to speed through to finish on time.
Has anyone had luck in complaining to GMAC/Pearson about something like this? Is it worth retaking it to try and get another 30 points?
With my applications due end of January, I'm not sure I even have enough time to take another exam. I'm hoping the 660 will be sufficient for the schools that I am applying to, which are mostly Part-Time and Weekend Executive programs (CBS, Kellogg, Stern). Would love to hear anyone's thoughts or suggestions.
I agree person procedures before allowing you inside the test room can take some time and cause stress in addition to the exam stress.
But I believe you can definitely do better next time and bag much higher score provided you got 39 in verbal.
How much scores would you normally get in quant in practice tests? The total score depends on that as well along with other aspects.
