Retake the 5th time to boost from 710 to 740 or 750. Should I?

Hi everyone,

I have just finished applying for several schools in Round 2 with the GMAT score of 710 (after 4th times - please see my profile). As an international applicant, I find chance for other school in Round 3 is minimal. So I plan to retake GMAT one more time to improve by 30 or 40 points so that I could have better chance of getting a good scholarship at schools I applied.

My question is that could an improvement of 30 or 40 points (from 710) make any differences, especially when I plan to retake after get admission decision from school?

I highly appreciate any advice. Thank you!

If it doesn't stop you doing other things that can help your application, a 740 or 750 will put you in a better position than a 710 will.

You've shown amazing improvement in verbal. Can you get that quant score back to 51? You have a Q51 on one of your earlier attempts, so there's a chance you can get it again. If your quant stays at 50, you'll probably need a 40 on verbal to get to 740. If your quant goes back to 51, you'll need something like 38 on verbal to get to 740.

Thanks  AjiteshArun ! Yes I really want to get a Q51 back. In fact, I got Q51 in both GMAT Prep tests 3 and 4 (the Exam pack 1) and in most of GMATClub tests I did. But I realize that I need to be a bit more risky in real test if I want to get Q51 instead of Q50. In the second attempt, I dared to spend 4 to 5 minutes on some super difficult questions, and then rushed at subsequent ones to catch up the timeline. But I realized that this approach could potentially spoil my score, so I was conservative in the 3rd and 4th attempts, guessing those tricky questions if allocated time is over.

And regarding Verbal section, I will try to reach a V38. But the first thing I should do is to purchase the ESR for the latest attempt from GMAC.

Yes, it's a fine line that we have to walk. Being too cautious can easily stop us from performing as well as we can. The good thing here is that you already have a really good score, so you will not feel worried while taking the exam.
