Greetings to all in the GMAT club,
As the subject indicates, I am wondering whether I should consider retaking the GMAT, even though I have already submitted my applications in Round 2. Here are the relevant details:
My GMAT is a 710. Quantitative 73%, Verbal 89%. Integrated reasoning 92%. Essay 91%. My verbal was lower than my practice tests (all 99%) and the quantitative was exactly what I was getting on practice tests.
Programs applied to:
- Harvard, Wharton, MIT, UVA, Yale, Kellogg, Booth, Emory, Duke, Dartmouth
- My undergrad GPA is 3.62 at a good undergrad university.
- I have a professional degree (J.D.) from a top-10 law school. Good GPA there also.
- Employment history: worked in a variety of settings (law firm, government, non profit); also started and ran a small business over the course of the last four years
- Activities: One volunteer activity recently completed (over a year)
- Essays: should be a strong part of my application
Potential red flags:
- Income from my small business in 2015 was nearly non-existent because I drastically cut back my hours as I started pursuing a career change. (I stated this in most of my applications)
- The fact that I have had a lot of different jobs over the course of the last 8 years may be perceived as someone that lacks direction/focus (I believe I addressed this in my short-term goals and the reasons why portion of the applications)
Given that the GMAT is the only aspect of the application I can still control, I have two questions. First, whether this will be taken into consideration by each school on that list. In the case of Kellogg, for instance, the application page allows applicants to add updates but adds the disclaimer that they make no guarantee that updates will be reviewed. Second, what the timeline is for retaking and submitting before the committees makes their decision.
I can improve my quantitative portion significantly but I would likely need three weeks to complete this process. The projected date would be approximately February 1st.
Any insights/thoughts/feedback is welcomed. Good luck to all that have applied in Round 2 or those that are preparing to take the GMAT again.
Best of luck!
