Hi Kristina,

Sorry to hear that after repeated attempts, you were not able to improve your score.

My recommendation would be to give it a break for some time. Do not take the test again in a period of 6 weeks.
Just take a break for couple of weeks and don't study for GMAT.

Post that, just take a practice test without any preparation and check your score. Post that do an analysis on your weak points and work on them case by case.
I think you need a more detailed prepapration and it might take some time. But if you are ready to invest time, it would definitely help.

Cheers !
DJ

Yes..I am going to take the GMAT for the 4th time. I need some advice. The 1st two times, I did not study at all and received scores of 420 and 460. I enrolled in the MGMAT Prep Course and saw my practice test go from 480 to a 580. The third time (today), I was prepared to pass and received an embarrassing 440. I need to know what I am possibly doing wrong.

- I only took two practice tests. Do I need to take more?
- I have gone through MGMAT Study books twice already. Would it even benefit me to go through these again, or try another book?
- Would retaking the test in 5 weeks be okay? Shorter/longer time period for retaking?

Any input would be greatly appeciated.

Thanks!

Dear Kristina,

Thank you for sharing your experience.

You should definitely take more practice tests than just 2...Please be aware that the single best way to practice for the GMAT is to do as many practice tests as possible AFTER you have studied the verbal and quant. concepts!

It is crucial that you first of all get a foundation and total understanding of the underlying concepts. Then you should practice as many real GMAT question types and observe your progress. The areas where you still have weaknesses should get special attention and you should study them more intensively.

A private tutor can help you to identify your weaknesses and create a study plan to eliminate them. Although this is a relatively cost intensive way to prepare it is (and all would agree I think) the most efficient.

If you are interested in online private tutoring we can arrange a free and non-committal trial hour where you can meet your tutor and discuss further details with him. Alternatively, we can offer you a free 7 days trial account for our 180+ hours on demand course. In case you are interested please learn more about it under the following link:

Please contact our support if you have any questions and please never forget that if you correctly prepare for the GMAT, your score is the direct result of the effort you put in!
