Hi all,
First of all I want to say that I am amazed about this great forum and great community. I like the way people are very keen on helping each other out.
Over the past 3 months I have been studying intensively for the GMAT; at least 3 hours a day during weekdays (due to work) and about 6 hours per day in the weekend. I started off in October after getting a score of 470 in my first GMATPrep exam. My quant score was 20 (8th percentile) and my verbal score was 34 (69 percentile). I then decided to focus all my attention on my quant since this has always been my weakness ever since middle school.
The way I went about it: I got the
MGMAT books and started reviewing the concepts in the books, however about 3 weeks in I switched to the Official GMAT Review and started reviewing the concepts in that book (I did not finish all
MGMAT books). I was starting to get the hang of it and did about 37 practice questions PS and DS of
the official guide every day to replicate the amount of questions in the actual GMAT. About 2 weeks before I scheduled my actual GMAT exam, I started doing CATS and I was seeing improvement with scores of 580, 550 and a 600 for the 2nd GMATprep.
I was very confident that I would get at least a score of 550 on the actual exam, but I was wrong. I went to the test center and started my first ever real gmat exam, but I had a lot of difficulties with focusing. I was not at all in my element and could not even understand most of the questions. I was constantly distracted by noises.
I scored 530 and I was really devastated by that score. I am not sure about the actual quant and verbal scores but my verbal was 76 percentile and quant about 20 percentile while I was constantly scoring around 49 percentile for quant in the CATS.
I think that the noise in the center has partly played a role, but there were also a bunch of quant questions I could not comprehend at all. Anyway, I will have to retake the test in the coming 2 weeks and improve by at least 20 GMAT points. I chose to do it in January since this will be my last chance this year to still get accepted by the business school. However, I am lost on how to go about it. I was so close to my goal, which makes the feeling of a fail even worse.
Does anybody have any strategies on how to go about studying, especially for the quant section, in the coming 16 days. Any tips and study plans would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
