Hi all - does anyone have experience or insight into what it's like committing upfront to return to your current employer after a full-time MBA program? I'm wondering if/how enjoyable it is going through the program with your post-MBA path already lined up. I'd imagine it removes the stress/anxiety of the whole recruiting process, but perhaps that's a negative as well (less exploration/lack of opportunities etc). Thanks!

I think you are in a good position, no worries. It is arguably more enjoyable. I recommend that you leverage the 2 years to really work on projects you are interested in, pursue subjects that you are passionate about - all stress free. You have more time since you will not need to worry about recruiting. Many MBA graduates end up changing their jobs after 12-24 months post-MBA, so in the long run it doesn't matter. Focus on maximizing your experience during your MBA, as it likely will serve you better in the long term, no matter if you are sponsored by your company or not. The MBA experience has the potential to give you more flexibility, network, and opportunities at large. If you are interested, I just wrote an e-book on this topic. My mom always said never count on anything you don't have. I agree with the other response, that you could enjoy new projects and be less stressed out. But of course you may be missing out on a lot of bonding with other students who will be your connections in the future. Also, you may be exposed to new careers that you never thought you would be interested in, get paid more, move to a place you may like better. Who knows! Anything can happen. Two years is a long time and the company may be in a different position or heading in a different direction. So keep an open mind because just like Kevin Nash always said, it's not personal, it's just business.

To add to the above advices, enjoy the MBA with less stress, but I would suggest that you still attend recruiting events. Apart from helping you bond with your peers, knowing the opportunities outside or even just to know how you will possibly be the one doing the campus recruiting should motivate you to attend some of these events. You may target the companies or industries you are interested in, and network or even interview with them. In a few years, they may be part of your prospective employers or business contacts.

Wish you all the best!
