Hi sank,

Given your prior GMAT Score, you might not need to spend as much time on your studies as you're planning to spend (but it's good to have the extra time if you need it). As it stands, a 640 puts you in position to apply to many of the Top40/Top50 Schools, so a retest wouldn't necessarily be a requirement.

That all having been said, many Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) on their studies. Considering that you spent less than 1 month, one of the likely factors in your performance was that you probably just have not put in enough time and effort yet. To raise your score to a 700+, you're going to have to make some improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. This will require that you learn/practice some new tactics and adjust how you 'see' (and respond to) the Test.

How long ago did you take your GMAT?

Hi Rich,

I took my test in April '15 so it's been five months. I totally agree with your points. I need to put in some efforts in both sections to improve my score. This is why I am trying keep the extra time and searching for right guidance and materials.

Thanks

Hi sank,

Since you took the GMAT 5 months ago, it would be a good idea for you to take a FULL-LENGTH CAT (including the Essay and IR sections) to see if your skills have 'faded' at all. You will likely be a little 'rusty' in certain areas, but we need to know what areas those are, so that you can put in the proper time and effort to build those skills back up. Once you have that score result, you should post back here and we can talk through a study plan.
