You definitely have a shot at schools ranked 30-50. It's not so much that you need to gain additional qualifications to list on your resume as it is that you want to position it as a BUSINESS resume. There is definitely opportunity to do that - especially with the NGO & the start up. And with your current job you want to show business skills as much as possible as well as any impact. Schools want resumes that show impact so you want to focus there & make sure it doesn't just read like a job description if that makes sense. They want to see your achievements & the business skills you used to make an impact. Like I said, you don't need that long list of certifications. In general you want to avoid long lists of anything on your resume & want to SHOW your skills, not tell them. They want to see you prove it via your examples & are not going to just take your word for it. Hope that helps!

Thank you jon admissionado for your persistent replies. Just some more questions. Am I required to before hand know which MBA specialization I will opt for ?
Secondly, if I do an MBA from suppose a 35th ranked b school, will I get sure placement after 3 months given I perform well during MBA course?

Some schools have specializations that they require you to name at some point & others actually do not - but either way when you write your application/essays you will need to know your post-MBA career goals & name the skill gaps you plan to fill via the MBA, so in that sense you actually have to indicate a focus even when you submit your application. The stronger & more clear your career goals & the skill gaps you need to fill, the stronger the argument you can make for why you need the MBA. That said, schools aren't going to hold you to those goals. Once you are in you can focus where you'd like. :) And like I said some schools will require to name a concentration whereas others don't even have concentrations. Typically you wouldn't have to name one until at least your second semester though since you usually don't take any electives until then.

I wasn't totally sure what you meant when you asked about placement after 3 months so if this didn't answer that part of the question just let me know!

Thank you for your reply. What I meant to say is that how placements are conducted in foreign b schools? In Indian b schools companies visit and recruit students who are 2-3 months short of completing their MBA. Most of these students had been interns of the same company and hence based on their internship, they get a call letter.

Yeah, recruiting is similar here in the US. Companies will come on campus to recruit for internships & they will come on campus to recruit for jobs as well. And if you've done an internship at a company you definitely have a good shot at a job there (assuming your internship went well). Timing can vary by school though - at many schools recruiters come on campus in the fall rather than the spring.
