Hi MackyCee,
I was in somewhat of a similar situation as you, intense work schedule and couldn't study more than 1 hour on week nights (brain gets fried!). I basically had very little 'life' on the weekends too. I started in April and took the GMAT today. I think if you stretch it out too long, it really KILLS you, since you get depressed, and start to forget stuff.

Would it be possible for you to take a few days off to do some intense studying straight leading up to the test? I did just that over a long weekend, and did my GMAT. With the intense studying leading up to the test, you are much more 'in the zone' and a lot of the practice, etc. is still fresh in your mind. Sounds like you're already in the groove now, so late September seems a bit far away. I also suggest focusing on the OG12 the most, so agree with you not to do the hard MGMAT cats that will blow your confidence. Many of the actual GMAT questions I saw were very similar to the ones seen on the OG. My story is at this link: 720-q47-v42-debrief-118174.html

GOOD LUCK AND YOU CAN DO IT!~

Lath, ur write-up is killer! It's given me a lot of confidence - and bit by bit - after going thru the MGMAT guides and thru the "supposedly tough" OG questions - I'm seeing that the GMAT is very beatable, and my goal of 680-700 is not unreasonable.

I'm not a renowned crammer - and I worry a lot - so I wouldn't be able to wing it in the few days before the exam - as I'd be thinking to myself (what happens if I don't absorb all this stuff in 4 days?? :/ )

I haven't touched OG12 yet - only OG11 (but from what I can see in the comparison sheets, there is a LOT of overlap between the two). I plan to do the last 300 questions from OG12 (Last 150 quant, last 150 verbal) before my next CAT.

You are 100% right about "The Zone" - I'm gonna try and get myself into the zone by doing 2 CATs the weekend before, and just enjoy life on the Monday and Tuesday, and be ready for the real thing on Wednesday! Might just read over flash-cards on the Monday and Tuesday...

I'm glad if it helps, I think you CAN do it! :-) Regarding the OG's I don't think it matters if you use OG 12 or OG 11. Also - I think doing the GMAT Prep CATs which are the best - and almost identical to the real test. And yes - it is absolutely beatable. Coming from a person who was in a 'i'm a long shot for over 700', it IS possible! Just try your best, and with a bit of positivity and luck on the day of, you can do it. Another advantage to doing it earlier is that you will have the chance to redo if your first attempt does not go so well and you have some bad luck. You can only take the test every 31 days so keep in mind with your deadlines!

Ok - I've done two more MGMAT CATs and I'VE FINALLY HIT THE 700 MARK!!!

2/9/2011 - MGMAT CAT4 - Q44 V36 - 660 (only did 35 of the 37 Quant questions before I ran out of time)
10/9/2011 - MGMAT CAT5 - Q47 V38 - 700

I felt like i absolutely bombed CAT5, but it was still a 700 - my best ever score. I think there might be something wrong with the MGMAT marking/algorithm, because I answered more questions correctly in CAT4, with much high averages across the board (see attached).

Can someone shed any light on how my CAT5, despite being worse than CAT4, was such a high score? Although I was OVER THE MOON when I saw "700" - looking at my performance in other CATs (in terms of the "averages"), it looks as though CAT5 was my worst one yet :s

Anyone have any explanations for me??

Just did another CAT today

Q47 V41 - 720

I'm on my effing way!!!

GMAT Prep1 & GMAT Prep 2 (with AWA) to come next Saturday & Sunday - I'm expecting my performance to dip slightly, as I'm yet to practice AWA, or build stamina in one sitting.

The averages here look a lot more sane that the CAT5 ones...

Just finished GMAT Prep 1 - Q45 V37 680

I found myself thinking "Not sure if genius - or absolutely bomb Quants" - because NONE of the questions seemed as difficult as the MGMAT ones...

I was STRUGGLING HARD with fatigue towards the back-end of verbal, as it was a FULL sim with two essays written

Will be doing GMAT Prep 2 tomorrow, but it looks like I've started to "level out", with a 700, 720 and 680 in the past 8 days :)

D-Day is in 4 days, aiming for the Big Seven-Zero-Zero!

Thanks samramandy!

Just got a Q49 V35 680 on GMAT Prep 2

so, in the last 8 days, I've got a:
Q47 V38 700
Q47 V41 720
Q45 V37 680
Q49 V35 680

Judging that, I'd say that I'm around a Q47 V37 680 or 690 - which I would be quite happy with, considering that I'm not applying to any ultra-elites

I'll let you guys know how I went when D-Day arrives!
