Official Explanation

Mary's argument is concerned with the idea that, no matter whether they have to move for a new job or not, a new bathroom is a good idea because it will increase their home value. So she is concerned with the effect that a new bathroom will have on home value.

In these "fill in the two blanks" it is crucial that you pay particular attention to the way the blanks are arranged. Here in asking how Blank 1 will be affected by Blank 2, the question is saying that 2 is the cause and 1 is the result. You know that the cause is the bathroom, so that's Blank 2, and the result is the home value, so that's Blank 1.

Notice the importance of taking time to understand how Blank 1 and Blank 2 relate to each other. The majority of incorrect answers to this problem correctly recognize that Mary is interested in how a new bathroom will impact her home value, but they mix up the positions of the blanks. Let this be a lesson - be very careful in these "two blank" Two-Part questions to correctly interpret the relationship between the blanks.
