Let Rory purchased X for regular gas.
And y for premium gas
20X+25Y = 1200 -------------(1)
3.85(X)+4.5(Y) = 226 ---------(2)
Equating both equations
Multiply equation 1 with 3.85
And equation two with 20
77X+96.25Y = 4620
77X+90Y = 4520
6.25Y = 100
Y = 16
Answer is B

- • Let us assume that she bought x gallons of normal gas and y gallons of premium gas.
- • Rory paid $226 for gas.
- o \(⟹ 3.85*x + 4.5*y = 226\)
o Multiplying both sides of the above equation by 100, we get,
o \(⟹ 385x + 450y = 22600\)
o Dividing both sides of the above equation by 5,we get,
o \(⟹77x +90y = 4520 ………..Eq.(i)\)
- o This means, \(20*x +25*y = 1200\)
o Dividing both sides of the above equation by 5, we get,
o \(⟹ 4x + 5y = 240…..Eq.(ii)\)
o Multiplying both sides of the above equation by 18, we get,
o \(72x + 90y = 4320 …………Eq.(iii)\)
- o \( 5x = 200 ⟹ x = 40\)
- o \(4*40 + 5*y = 240 ⟹ 5*y = 80 ⟹ y = 16\)
