Hello pusaluja,
You have some positives going for you. Being a female candidate from a Grade A college works in your favor. I can see you have done exceedingly well at work, with three promotions in a short span of time, with numerous awards too. Another thing that shines in your profile is leadership experience. These are traits that are valued at Rotman.
However, there is lot of information I am missing currently to give you a better assessment:
- Your post-collegiate extra-curriculars and community involvement
- Examples of your leadership experience and impact from your professional life
- Your post-MBA goals
The average GMAT at Rotman has traditionally hovered around 670, as Rotman looks at other ways (collegiate marks) to assess your academic proficiency. If you have a low GPA at college level, you may want to compensate for it by scoring well above average GMAT. Also, you may want to score well in your AWA section of GMAT.
Remember, Rotman has become more competitive over years, with more international candidates applying to Canadian schools, so the quality of your application will matter. One question they have consistently asked over years is the applicant’s ‘spike factor’.
Good luck!

Hi pusaluja,

Thanks for sharing your profile. Your profile looks good on the surface. Talking about your acads, it’s on the lower side. Your undergrad GPA is low, and you will need a competitive GMAT score to make up for it. The average GMAT score for Rotman is 670. I suggest you target a score of 700+ to have a safer ground and exhibit your academic potential. Your certifications will also give a significant boost to your profile.

On the work front, I can see a good career trajectory. You’ll have to showcase how you are a perfect fit by highlighting your career progression and contributions to your employers in the past. The adcoms should get the impression that you are a high-performing individual who has performed better than his past peers. To make this point, you may also mention your leadership positions and learnings from them or how you handled a certain company crisis. Your workplace successes reflect your excellence. It would be great if you can provide me with the specifics of your career path and the roles and responsibilities you have undertaken to help you further. The b-schools prefer applicants that have a remarkable experience or have contributed to their organisations progressively.

Your achievements are exemplary. You can share your learnings from the workshops you have attended. I would also like to know your EC’s, community involvement or hobbies/interest and your post-MBA goals. This will help me understand your suitability to Rotman and suggest you other great schools that fit your profile. You may want to read this article on the importance of GPAs in MBA applications. It will give you a very good idea of the significance of GPA and how to compensate for lower ones.

Overall, your profile is good, but I’m keen to identify the spark points in your profile. If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and gauge your fit for the b-schools. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Hello pusaluja,

Apologies for the delayed response but we hope this finds you in time still.

Your promotions, awards, and graduation from a reputed school are the pluses that you can bank on; the managerial experience will also prove to be a significant talking point in your profile and one that you should highlight appropriately especially since business schools place a great deal of emphasis on the same.

The extra-curricular activities mentioned are mostly pre-job ones and it would be worthwhile to understand if you have been involved with anything in the recent past especially from the point of view of leadership in the extra-curricular sphere; if not, it would make sense to look for opportunities that you can contribute to since you do have a few months to go still.

Yes, the GPA is low; while you will appropriately address the same in your essays, it is important that you aim for as high a GMAT score as you can; the average GMAT score at Rotman (and other top Canadian schools) may appear to be low but one needs to keep in mind the surge in applications to Canada and realistically look at a score upwards of 710-720 in order to have a competitive chance; needless to say, the higher the better.

At this point, purely focus on GMAT, and once that is out of the way, deliberate on how you will go about structuring your essays and post MBA goals.

Should you wish to discuss this in greater detail, please feel free to get in touch with us. :-)

All the best!

Hi pusaluja

Aim for a GMAT of 700+ (of course, the higher the better, to compensate for the GPA). You might also want to book yourself for upcoming Rotman webinars. Please also provide more details on more recent extra curricular activities.
