Hello,
Is the salary in the B-school applications for M7 supposed to be gross or net salary? Since different countries would have different tax rates - and they've mentioned excluding company contributions on social security etc?
Good question by the way. M7s would be familiar with either number/figure as long as you properly call it out. They have experience with lots of applicants putting it whichever way.
However, since they are US-based the more natural number is what the employer advertises on the Job posting in your country. E.g. are they saying make $50K/year or make $35K/year after taxes.
By the way, the reason they ask for Salaries is to get a sense of a few things:
1) How you stack up with applicants from your country/background/industry as often people are rewarded based on their contribution. Not always though, and if you have an example of why you were under-rewarded or perhaps rewarded in different ways, thats worth explaining.
2) Your salary progression. You made 30K out of undergrad, then 40K then 50K, and so on. Shows career and responsibility growth while perhaps not showing a title change.
